Mask Making at the Argenta Community Workshop

The first session will focus on making the mask base. Choose from a plaster mask moulded to your face, a paper mache mask moulded to a balloon, or a cardboard mask. By the second session the masks will be dry and we’ll  paint and decorate.

The plaster mask process is potentially a bit unnerving as you lie unable to see or speak for half an hour, so it’s not suitable for younger kids, but the advantage is you end up with a mask that fits you and looks like you, except you can transform yourself into a different entity – and change the look again next year on the same mask base.

Also bring any other costume elements you want to work on.

Wear old clothes – this will get messy.

Hoping some of you can bring lightweight cardboard, such as cereal boxes, for the cardboard masks.

Should be weird/ fun!
